In reply to: Syntorial 2 Velocity in Randomizer Challenges
October 2, 2023 at 11:36 am #54583We’ll be adding velocity to the QWERTY keyboard in an upcoming update. For now, unfortunately, you’ll need a MIDI keyboard to do the Velocity-based Randomizer lessons.

September 8, 2023 at 9:54 am #54566Good catch! No there is no Bonus for that Group. There shouldn’t be a “plus” sign there. Will fix in upcoming update.

September 8, 2023 at 9:51 am #54564Try using Ring Mod. This will create that bell-like tone, and at certain pitch settings also create that unsettled pitch wobble. And then use Filter Envelope to create the attack transient. As a starting point:
Oscillators: Both set to Square, but with Osc B’s volume set to 0 (since we only want to use it as the modulator). RM turned all the way up, and Osc B set to 2 octaves and 7 semi higher.
Filter: Low Pass 24 dB, using the Filter Envelope with a quick decay to create that nice spike.
In reply to: When I Wake Up (hunter & wolfe): Tapey sound?
September 1, 2023 at 10:03 am #54536It may not even be a synth. Perhaps a Rhodes or Wurly, drenched in reverb?
But with the synth, I would remove the second oscillator altogether, switch to a 24 dB filter, and bring up the Cutoff until you get the right amount of roundness, bathe it in reverb, and turn it down so it melts into the background.

September 1, 2023 at 9:08 am #54531I don’t hear a synth melody playing the same line as the guitar. I do hear a really quiet little keyboard or synth melody playing a different melody in the background. Is that what you’re referring to?

September 1, 2023 at 9:01 am #54530Hi Siyan
Can you re-upload your Serum patch, but zip it first?

September 1, 2023 at 8:56 am #54528Really close! Try the following tweaks:
– Remove noise and instead max out the filter envelope amount. This will give you that biting brightness
– Disable the Sub’s “Direct Out”, switch it to Saw, enable it in the Filter so it receives the same filter envelope treatment, and increase its volume a bit
– Increase Osc A’s unison Detune a bit to make it a little more aggressive
– Add a little Filter Drive to give it more oomphIn reply to: How is progress from beginner to Apprentice determined?
August 30, 2023 at 12:43 pm #54524Unfortunately, the survey has closed. But what synth did you have in mind?
In reply to: Is the Semi knob equal tempered or justly tuned?
August 28, 2023 at 9:10 am #54522Good catch! Synths, including Syntorial, are usually equal-tempered. The disappearing fundamental at octaves and fifths is just the nature of oscillator sync.

August 28, 2023 at 9:05 am #54521Thanks for the screenshot. It shows that your next lesson is Serum Filter Envelope Part 2, which occurs in Section 9. Once you launch the Serum videos in Sections 9, 10, and 11, it should then show the Apprentice milestone as achieved.

August 25, 2023 at 8:04 am #54515You just have to pass the lessons with at least 1 star. Please restart Syntorial, open the Table Of Contents, take a screenshot of the entire app, and post it here.

August 24, 2023 at 1:19 pm #54508Hi! It’s determined by how far you make into the course. If you open the Table Of Contents at the top left and then scroll down, you’ll see that Apprentice is achieved after finishing section 11, Artisan after section 22, and Alchemist at the end.
In reply to: Does the filter envelope interact with the LFO?
August 21, 2023 at 12:31 pm #54504Hi Jay
Good question. In Syntorial, the LFO and Filter Envelope can work together simultaneously. However, specific settings may make it sound like only one is working. To hear it try this:
Filter: Set the Cutoff to Noon, Decay to max, Sustain to 0.
LFO: Set destination to Cutoff, Amount to 0.12.
Press and hold a key, and you’ll hear the LFO’s up-down cycle moving its center down as the Envelope Decay descends.
