Depeche Mode’s 1987 single “Never Let Me Down Again,” the second single from their acclaimed album *Music For The Masses*, features one of the band’s most recognizable lead synthesizer sounds that helped define their signature electronic aesthetic. The distinctive lead melody was originally created using an Emu Emulator II sample player, producing a plucked guitar-like sample combined with a vocal-like pad that creates an organic, bell-like timbre with a bright, spiky attack transient. But we can get close with Vital using a morphed wavetable for the organic bell-like timbre up top, and a filter saw wave for the body.
