Audible Genius makes music-production software and courses. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legalese.<\/p>\n

    From third parties:<\/strong> our payment processor tells us about your order; advertising platforms tell us (in aggregate) that an ad led to a visit; the Apple App Store tells us you bought Syntorial for iPad.<\/p>\n

    What we deliberately do not collect:<\/strong> we do not store your card number, we do not ask for information about your health, race, religion, politics, or sexuality, we do not ask your date of birth, and we do not knowingly collect anything from children under 13.<\/p>\n

    How you sign in<\/h3>\n

    There are four ways to get into your account, and they collect different things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

    Email and password<\/strong><\/td>\nWe store your email address and a cryptographic hash of your password. We never store the password itself and cannot read it.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Sign in with Google<\/strong><\/td>\nGoogle confirms your identity to us and sends us your name, email address and profile picture. Google never gives us your password<\/strong>, and we cannot see anything else in your Google account. Google will know you have an account with us.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Sign in with Facebook<\/strong><\/td>\nThe same arrangement with Meta: they confirm your identity and send us basic profile details. We cannot post anything or read your activity, and Meta will know you have an account with us.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Emailed sign-in link<\/strong><\/td>\nWe send a single-use link to your email address instead of asking for a password.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

    We record which of these you used, so that the sign-in screen can offer you the right option next time. If you signed up with Google or Facebook and would rather not use them, email us and we will switch your account to an email and password.<\/p>\n

    Why we use it<\/h3>\n

    • To provide the product<\/strong> \u2014 creating your account, unlocking what you bought, syncing progress between your devices, providing support.<\/li>\n
    • To take payment<\/strong> \u2014 processing orders, refunds and invoices through our payment processor.<\/li>\n
    • To email you<\/strong> \u2014 receipts and account notices (which you cannot opt out of while you have an account), and our newsletter and product announcements (which you can, at any time).<\/li>\n
    • To improve the course<\/strong> \u2014 analysing which lessons people struggle with. This work uses a pseudonymous learner identifier and no email addresses.<\/li>\n
    • To market<\/strong> \u2014 measuring whether our advertising works, and showing ads to people who have visited us. This is the part most likely to be what you want to opt out of; see Your choices<\/em>.<\/li>\n
    • To keep things working and honest<\/strong> \u2014 security, fraud prevention, bot filtering, debugging.<\/li>\n
    • To meet legal obligations<\/strong> \u2014 tax and accounting records, and responding to lawful requests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Legal bases (for users in the EU, EEA and UK)<\/h3>\n

      We process your information on one of these grounds:<\/p>\n

      • Performance of a contract<\/strong> \u2014 everything needed to deliver software you bought and run your account.<\/li>\n
      • Consent<\/strong> \u2014 the newsletter, and advertising and analytics cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.<\/li>\n
      • Legitimate interests<\/strong> \u2014 security, fraud prevention, and understanding how our course is used, balanced against your rights.<\/li>\n
      • Legal obligation<\/strong> \u2014 keeping financial records and answering lawful requests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Who we share it with<\/h3>\n

        We do not sell your personal information for money. We do share it with the companies below, either because they run part of our service for us, or \u2014 in the case of the advertising platforms \u2014 because measuring advertising counts as “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under several US state privacy laws.<\/p>\n

        Our embedded players.<\/strong> The interactive players we embed in our own pages \u2014 and that you may encounter on other sites \u2014 send usage data to Cloudflare Analytics Engine, which we copy daily into Google BigQuery. We record the page the player was embedded on, your browser, and the country Cloudflare infers from your connection. The player itself sets no cookies. On our own websites, that activity is joined to your existing Google Analytics identity for that visit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        We also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend legal claims.<\/p>\n

        Where your information goes<\/h3>\n

        We are a US company and most of our suppliers are in the United States, so if you are outside the US your information will be transferred there. The US does not have an equivalent data-protection regime to the EU or UK. Where we transfer personal information out of the EEA or UK, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard in our agreements with those suppliers.<\/p>\n

        Your rights<\/h3>\n

        Everyone<\/strong>, wherever you live, can ask us to: tell you what we hold about you; correct it; delete it; give you a copy in a portable format; or stop sending you marketing. Email support@audiblegenius.com<\/strong>. We will answer within 30 days, and we will not charge you or treat you worse for asking.<\/p>\n

        We need to be confident you are who you say you are before we act, so we may ask you to confirm from the email address on the account.<\/p>\n

        If you are in the EU, EEA or UK<\/strong>, you additionally have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to ask us to restrict processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your national data protection authority.<\/p>\n

        If you are in California<\/strong>, you may also ask us to stop sharing your information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information.<\/p>\n

        If you are in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Nevada, Delaware, Iowa, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nebraska, Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island or Montana<\/strong>, you may also opt out of processing for targeted advertising and profiling, and appeal if we refuse a request.<\/p>\n

        If you are in Brazil<\/strong>, under the LGPD you may additionally ask us to confirm whether we process your information, anonymize or block unnecessary data, learn who we have shared it with, and know the consequences of refusing consent.<\/p>\n
