Lets synthesize some drums! I’ve always found this process fascinating. Design your best Kick, Snare and Hi Hat, make a short beat, and post it here.
And for those of you new to the world of drum synthesis, here’s a brand new video tut on how it works:

Hey Joseph! You got a really nice metallic timbre in that Hi Hat. How did you program it?
December 16, 2018 at 1:28 pm #22475Hi Joe, here are a few simple beats to demonstrate the Drum sounds I’ve programmed in Primer. These include kicks, snares, hats and various other percussion sounds. The Drum patches are part of a big soundbank I’ve made in Primer which also includes Pads, Stabs, Bass, FX and Plucks. Everything you need to make some music from just one very cool FREE synth!

December 16, 2018 at 4:35 pm #22486Thanks Joe! I created two layers in Omnisphere. In layer A, I have a triangle wave through a HP with a cutoff about 100Hz. Amp Decay is up just a little. But I’m not using this layer very much in the balance. It’s mostly layer B, which is very similar but the triangle wave is replaced with a noise source. Amp Decay is set to .08 seconds and all the other Amp setting are at 0.

Nice meaty kick. A great metallic ring to the hat, and a good sharp snare. Nice work! Just goes to show, when you know what you’re doing with a synth, you don’t really need a dedicated drum machine at all! 🙂

Thanks! All from Primer on iPad. It’s capable of making a lot of good sounds, for free!

These sound great! Not just the sound design, but the patterns as well. Looking forward to checking out your presets

The Triangle wave was a nice choice. It really gives the attack a more realistic timbre.

Thanks, Joe! All I did was sample my Primer sounds as one-shots across Korg Gadget’s Bilbao sample player for endless sequencing possibilities.
I’m really enjoying the quickness of working with Primer, and it just seems to keep on giving. My Primer soundbank just keeps on growing, and I’m very pleased with the results.
